Coronavirus resources and response in Perry County, Alabama: March 23

Sowing Seeds of Hope continues to provide sack lunches for children who are out of school due to the coronavirus crisis, as well as offering free screening for COVID-19. In an effort to slow or stop the spread of the virus, we are modifying our office hours and practices. We will continue to offer as many of our regular services as possible via phone and email.

Sack lunches

Remember that sack lunches for children are available from 10:00 to 12:00 at Uniontown First Baptist or from 1:00 to 3:00 at Providence Baptist Church or Eagle Grove Missionary Baptist Church. All other distribution sites in the county have been closed to increase our capacity at these three largest sites. Please contact the Sowing Seeds of Hope office at 334-683-4666 if your children were registered for another site so that we can make other arrangements.

Sack lunches will be available through this Friday, March 27. School lunches will begin on Monday, March 30. Please contact your child’s school or the Perry County Board of Education for details.

COVID-19 screening

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) or believe you have been exposed to the coronavirus, free screening is available between 10:00 and 12:00 outside the Perry County Courthouse.

If you have a regular primary care physician, we recommend that you contact their office for screening since they will already be familiar with your medical history. For your reference, the number for Dr. Lee’s office (Vaughn Marion Rural Clinic) is 334-683-9085. The number for Dr. Hyer’s office (Cahaba Medical Care, Marion) is 334-247-1066.

COVID-19 prevention

As a reminder, we should all be staying home and avoiding gatherings with people as much as possible to prevent or slow the spread of the coronavirus. Wash your hands regularly and well, and try to avoid touching your face whenever possible.

At this time, there are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Perry County. However, we should all continue to be cautious as this does not mean there are not individuals in our community who already have the coronavirus. You may have the virus for up to two weeks before you experience symptoms, so we should all be doing our best to avoid close contact with everyone, even if they do not appear to be sick.

Office hours

Our offices are closed for walk-in services and visitors this week, but someone will be available to speak with you by phone from 9:00 to 1:00. We will continue to offer the same resources, but will do so through email or over the phone. If you need assistance, please give us a call at 334-683-4666.
