The Alabama Network of Family Resource Centers recently renewed the Families and Communities Together (FACT) mini-grant awarded to Sowing Seeds of Hope. The grant helps fund practical assistance for the families of kindergarten through twelfth grade students at Perry County schools.
The FACT program, an acronym for Family Assistance Through Community Ties, focuses on bringing community resources into schools to support students and their families. Services can include parent workshops and referrals for assistance with needs such as housing, counseling, clothing, medical care, and other supports that help children succeed in school.
The FACT model is based on a long-running school partnership program at the PACT Family Resource Center in Decatur, Alabama. Founded in 1978, PACT works to prevent child abuse and strengthen families through parenting education, community programs, and school-based services that support children and parents.
Programs like this allow Sowing Seeds of Hope to respond quickly when families and schools identify needs that help children attend school prepared and ready to learn. We are proud to be part of the Alabama Network of Family Resource Centers and the work that they do to support student success and family stability in communities across the state.
