Coronavirus resources and response in Perry County, Alabama: March 24

Representatives of Sowing Seeds of Hope, along with other leaders in local governments and health care agencies, participated in a conference call organized by Congresswoman Terri Sewell earlier today. Frances Ford, Sowing Seeds of Hope’s Executive Director, was asked to report on current efforts to address COVID-19 in Perry County. New information shared on the conference call and gathered by our staff today is below.

Coronavirus Screening

Screening for the coronavirus, which will help you quickly determine if you might need testing, is available through Sowing Seeds of Hope at the Perry County Courthouse on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Screening is also available at the Marion Rural Health Clinic (334-683-2073) and the Perry County Health Department (334-683-6153).

Coronavirus Testing

Within Perry County, testing is now available at Vaughn Marion Rural Clinic (334-683-9085) for individuals who were already patients of Dr. Lee or another primary care provider at Vaughn. Testing for COVID-19 is also currently available at Cahaba Medical Care, Marion (334-247-1066). Twenty-four hour testing is being offered by the Hale County Medical Center in Greensboro. Testing is also available at Main Street Family Care in Selma and Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis. Please understand that only individuals with many or all of the symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, and shortness of breath) will be tested because of the national shortage of supplies.

Coronavirus Prevention

Remember that the best way to prevent COVID-19 is frequently washing your hands well, avoiding touching your face, only leaving your home when absolutely necessary, avoiding large gatherings, and maintaining six feet of distance between yourselves and others. Not everyone who has the coronavirus feels or appears sick, so it is important to maintain social distance.

If you have a medical need not related to coronavirus, call your healthcare provider before you go to the office. Many issues are being handled over the phone to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Several pharmacies, including College City Drug in Marion (334-683-6166), are offering curbside pickup for prescription drugs.
