Sowing Seeds of Hope and partners provide food for over 300 families

Each fall, Sowing Seeds of Hope’s Social and Spiritual Task Force reaches out to churches across Perry County for nominations. Each church is asked to select elderly, sick, or struggling members from their congregations to receive a bag of food in November. Churches are also asked to make a small donation to help cover the cost of the bags.

Sowing Seeds of Hope and two of their partner churches, Mountain Brook Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa, donate non-perishable food items traditionally cooked for Thanksgiving, including stuffing, green beans, and yams. A $10 gift certificate to the Marion FoodValu is also included, allowing recipients to purchase turkey or food staple items of their choice.

On November 21, volunteers from participating churches and students, faculty, and staff from Judson College met at the Ed Daniel Job Training Center to pack donated items into grocery bags, which had been decorated in children’s missions education classes at Mountain Brook Baptist Church the week before.

This year, bags were packed and distributed to 310 families in Perry County.
