Sowing Seeds of Hope partners with state organizations to provide free training for helping professionals

The Alabama Department of Mental Health, in partnership with the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and the Alabama Network of Family Resource Centers, has provided funding to educate helping professionals about adverse childhood experiences and their impact throughout the life cycle.

Free, one-day “Strengthening Families and Communities: Preventing and Assessing Trauma” seminars will be held via Zoom. These workshops will be facilitated by personnel from a number of family resource centers around the state. Sowing Seeds of Hope will host workshops from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on September 2, September 3, and September 10.

Participants will learn to identify adverse childhood experiences, understand protective factors that can mitigate these experiences, and develop tools to integrate this new knowledge about trauma into their daily work. The workshop will also include a screening of RESILIENCE, a documentary by KPJR films that showcases research on the effects of toxic stress on children.

Any individual that serves in a helping role is welcome to participate in the free training. Mental health professionals, social workers, educators, juvenile justice professionals, law enforcement officials, pastors and other church leaders, healthcare workers, nonprofit staff members, and community leaders should all find the training beneficial. Students preparing to enter a helping profession are also welcome to attend.
